Setting Yourself Apart for Christ

Ok, so a question for all of you. It's been on my mind a lot this weekend and I thought it would be nice to get your opinion on it.

How does one set themselves apart from the world...but not act like a snob?

I do have a bit of a backstory as to why this came into my mind, but that might be a different post. I just want to hear your thoughts first ;)

So....thoughts?

  1. I've thought about this question a lot as well. I think one key is to have a humble spirit about you. Be friendly, smile a lot, and be willing to talk with others even if they don't act of dress like you. Of course you shouldn't go out and find drunks and people like that to associate with, but with other Christians and even non-believers, try to be kind and Christ-like. Let them see God's love in you. :)
    That's my thoughts. :)

    1. This is awesome, thank you so much for sharing, Ashley! And I'd totally agree, not having a "holier than thou" attitude and being willing to talk with anyone is a huge key in NOT being a snob. And 100% agree with showing God's love in you...that's a definite must!

  2. I agree with Ashley--be humble; don't degrade others. There's definitely a fine line between setting oneself apart and being a 'snob' about it. I think another key is to be respectful of others, not degrading the person. Obviously sometimes it's necessary to explain why you think an action is wrong or sinful, but it's more helpful to focus on the action and not the person.

Sometimes unbelievers will just call you a snob no matter how respectful you are. It's too bad, but as Jesus says, they hated Him, they will hate His followers. Some names you just won't be able to avoid if you abide by God's will.

But it's really difficult, I agree, and every situation is different. It's very important to listen to what the Holy Spirit tells you to say.

    1. Ooh...that's a good one! Degrading others...yep, totally know what you mean. And if I'm to be completely honest, I'm guilty of that sometimes. Definitely not showing the love of God and something I need to work on. Thank you for sharing,

  3. You know, I still remember something one of my Heart Sisters told me about my family. We were having one of those wonderful, long, deep conversations, and she said something like:
"Your family accepts people for who they are. You don't criticize them or look down on them. You don't ignore them or keep your distance. You welcome them, love them, and look past the problems."
I know that's not true all the time, but that's how my dad is. My mom's personality is a bit different, but doesn't judge others.

With that said, stand in the truth that God has shown you, but don't ignore, look down on, or judge someone else. Show by your actions the love of God, and then, even if someone says you're a snob, don't let it bother you. Take it to Christ.

    1. Love of God. I keep seeing that repeated...and I LOVE it <3 Thank you so much for sharing! I guess when we know we have so much love from God, we just want to share it all with everyone else! And yes, we struggle sometimes, but then we get strengthened over and over by our Heavenly Father <3

Hi! Thanks for stopping by! :)
I LOVE comments, so please do leave one! I will try and reply as soon as possible :D If you comment under Anonymous, please leave a name (it can be made up or real, your choice ;)
Oh, and as you all probably know, my family and I are under pseudonyms (you didn’t really think I had a brother named Spiderman or Ironman, did ya? We’re weird, but not 'that' weird! :P) If you do know our real names, please don’t say it in the comment box. Public safety stuff ;) Thanks!

Finally, brothers (and sisters!), whatever is true, whatever is honourable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things
