The BOOKshelf Tag

Faith P.  did The Bookshelf Tag a while back and there was an open invitation...so you could say I kinda tagged myself! Hey, anything to do with books is fun! :)

So, here we go with the questions!

Describe your bookshelf (or wherever it is you keep your books-it doesn't actually have to be a shelf!) and where you got it from:

Tiger Lily and I share a bookshelf underneath her loft bed. The books in there are the ones that we bought from book fairs and the like. The shelf itself is a piney looking one, a pretty light brown.

BUT, the books here are NOT the only ones in this house! We have four ceiling high shelves in the living room, crammed with books and another shelf in the office with three or four shelves full of Lamplighters, and more books down in the school room on top of the school supplies, and a box or two with some books that I can't read quite yet since they're for Grade 11-12 reading.

Do you have any special or different way of organizing your books?
Tiger Lily and I keep series in the middle shelf, and individual books on the top and bottom shelves. Oh yes, and books by the same author are kept together too. :)

What's the thickest (most amount of pages) book on your shelf?
Inkspell. The sequel to Inkheart. Not my favourite book, but it's interesting!

What's the thinnest (least amount of pages) book on your shelf?
That would be Annie Henry and the Secret Mission

Is there a book you received as a birthday gift?
Yes, there is! I received it for my 15th birthday from someone I had never met before! We had gone out for lunch with some old friends and family, and our friend invited her neighbour to join us, and when this kind lady had found out that we were celebrating, she bought me Wonder as a present! Wasn't that so sweet? How she knew that I liked loved reading is beyond me!

What's the smallest (height and width wise) book on your shelf?
Seven Daughters and Seven Sons.  I didn't measure it with a ruler or tape; just compared it with all the other small books in our shelf....which I didn't know we had so many of until I started measuring :P

What's the biggest (height and width wise) book on your shelf?
The Secret of the Rose: The Eleventh Hour

Is there a book from a friend on your shelf?
Do cousins count?

Most expensive book?
The Prince and the Pauper is the most expensive. I might as well tell the story behind it! We were at a book fair and I had bought it at one of the vendors, delighted that 1. I had finally found the book because Mom had been looking for it and 2. It was unabridged. Happiness quickly disappeared later on when I showed the book to Mom later that evening. She saw the book and said "Oh no! I already bought this book online! I forgot to tell you!" Somewhat deflated, I said "Oh well! I guess Tiger Lily and I get to add it to our book collection." Then I cheered myself up by saying "At least it's unabridged!" But Mom, turning the book over, said "Umm....this isn't unabridged." *bangs head on keyboard*

And thus ends the tale of the purchase of The Prince and the Pauper

The last book you read on your shelf?
The Battle of Lookout Mountain.

Of all the books on your shelf, which was the first you read?
Probably Mandie and the Secret Tunnel or The Mountain of Adventure

Do you have more than one copy of a book?
Yes! Tiger Lily and I are collecting the Little House on the Prairie books, the coloured versions. We both have decided that if we ever have our own household and our own children, then the first books they're probably going to be introduced to, next to the Bible of course, is Little House in the Big Woods. :D

Do you have the complete series of any book series?
Yes. Tiger Lily and I have the complete series of Bonnets and Bugles, by Gilbert Morris.

Mom also has the entire series of Little House on the Prairie, just not the collector's version. :)

What's the newest addition to your shelf?
First of all, I'm going to change the question to "the newest additions" because usually when Tiger Lily and I add to our book shelf, it comes in groups, not individually. It's very rare when we add only one new book to our shelf! :)

So, the most recent additions were: Secret of the Rose, Elsie Dinsmore (unabridged....and yes, this one really was unabridged), 5 Nancy Drews, 3 Royal Diaries, Prince and the Pauper *shudders with embarrassment*, Love Takes Wing, Young Pioneers, The War Within, Trapped, Nobody Said It Would Be Easy, and Rise of the Golden Cobra.

What book has been on your shelf FOREVER?
Pilgrim's Progress and the Little House on the Prairies series.

What's the most recently published book on your shelf?
Light from Heaven. An absolutely amazing book! If you haven't read it before, I would totally recommend it!

The oldest book on your shelf (as in, the actual copy is old)?
Five Little Peppers At School (1937), Five Little Peppers Abroad(1937), and The Message in the Hollow Oak (1934) would fit under this question. The Margaret Sidney books were bought at an unbelievable price at our local bookstore. 25 cents each! Talk about a deal!! :D

Also found it very interesting to realize that all three books were published by Grosset and Dunlap...

And then here's another book that's pretty old. But this one isn't mine, it's Mom and Dad's. I've never read it, partly because I wasn't too interested, but mainly because I'm afraid the book will fall apart when I read it. It's already got a few loose pages from it!

I have no idea when this book was published, but there was a loose flyleaf in it that I tried to read. It went something like this:

... sweeter (?) will be [_________] judicious,
As a Token, Dear Girl, of the Best of good wishes,
from Horace

                                        Xmas 1907

Anyone know what the blank says?

A book you won?
None that I can think of.

A book you'd hate to let out of your sight (aka a book you never let someone borrow)?
Hmm....I'm more the type where, if there's a book that I really, really like, then I'll be trying to get people to borrow it!

Most beat up book?
Probably Royal Ransom by Eric Walters or Young Pioneers by Rose Wilder Lane (yes, Laura Ingalls Wilder's daughter!!!!) . Most of our books aren't that beat up, they're mostly just really old!

Most pristine book?
Life of Pi and Ender's Game. Partly because we bought them brand spanking new from Amazon, and partly because I've never touched them after the first reading. They were for my English course last year....let's just say I didn't enjoy reading 'em.

A book from your childhood?
There are lots! But I'll just do two Betsy - Tacy and Brave Kids: Cora Frear .

A book that's not actually your book?
None in Tiger Lily and my bookshelf. But there are Unless you count the books in the living room?

A book with a special/different cover (e.g. leather bound, soft fuzzy cover etc.)?
The only books that have a different cover from all the others would be The Royal Diaries

A book that is your favorite colour?
Victoria: May Blossom of Britannia, Marie Antoinette: Princess of Versailles, and Cleopatra VII: Daughter of the Nile have some of my favourite colours.

Book that's been on your shelf the longest that you STILL haven't read?
Doesn't exist!

Any signed books?
Yes, four! They're the first four books of the Moody series by Sarah Maxwell. 6-7 years ago, we went to a conference and met Sarah Maxwell, and she signed all four books for us!

And that's the end of the list! That was fun! Here's a picture of what the girls' bedroom looked like when I finished taking pictures of all those books!

Piles and piles of books..... ;) I had to put them all back, in order, when I had finished. :D

I'm not too sure what the rules are exactly for this tag, but let's just say it's nominating time!

So, I nominate:

Tiffany
Tiger Lily
Rebekah Raub

Here are the questions again, so it won't take so long to copy 'em all!  :D

I got Secret of the Rose last month, at a book fair. Oh boy, now I REALLY want to find the rest of the series! Is Sabina in all of them? Or just most of them?

Hi! Thanks for stopping by! :)
I LOVE comments, so please do leave one! I will try and reply as soon as possible :D If you comment under Anonymous, please leave a name (it can be made up or real, your choice ;)
Oh, and as you all probably know, my family and I are under pseudonyms (you didn’t really think I had a brother named Spiderman or Ironman, did ya? We’re weird, but not 'that' weird! :P) If you do know our real names, please don’t say it in the comment box. Public safety stuff ;) Thanks!

Finally, brothers (and sisters!), whatever is true, whatever is honourable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things
